Elsas Journey

9th December 2017

Every year Jennie Dhanjal from K9 Search UK calls us with a desperate case that needs nothing short of a Christmas miracle. Every year with hard work and your help our prayers are answered and a life is saved.

This year is no exception. The call to an emaciated dog found curled up on a nature reserve by a member of the public in DY2 was answered by Lin. This poor baby was rushed to Yourvets Smethwick where she was assessed by our vets. Given a body score of 0.5 out of 5 this girl weighs 17.5KG - My God, she should be a minimum of 45kg!

She has had an ultrasound, bloods taken and given intravenous broad spectrum antibiotics and fluids for severe dehydration, her liver enzymes are raised so the vets are having to be careful what she is treated with. She is also having miniscule amounts of wet food regularly and will have more tests when she is stable.

We need everyone who reads this to share everywhere. Someone knows where this girl has come from we need to know where.

We will post regular updates as we know more - please join us in praying for this years Christmas miracle and send healing to Elsa as we have named her.

Day 1

Meeting Elsa for the very first time

Day 1

Meeting Elsa for the very first time

Day 1

Badly dehydrated every bone showing and no muscle left as her body has used it to keep her alive

Day 1

The eyes of a tortured soul

Day 1

Elsa weighs 17.5kg when she should be a minimum of 42kg

Day 1

Long nails, poor girl

Day 1

Sleep at last and relaxed

Day 2

Come on Elsa please eat a little

Day 2

Hey world, look at me, I am trying

Day 2

Come on girl you need to move so you dont get sore.

Day 2

Elsa in her wooly pully to keep her warm and cosy, 24 hrs of fluids and shes taking notice

Day 3

Sitting up today and taking notice, Elsa is still struggling to get up from a lying down position as she has no muscle to get her up.

Day 3

Does Elsa have a visitor today?

Day 3

Yes she does!
Its Aunty Lin come to give her some cuddles and encouragement. The pep talk seems to have worked.

Day 3

Yay Elsa is on her feet, very wobbly legs and had to be helped up but practice makes perfect. No sign of tumours or underlying probems so probably all down to sheer neglect. Elsa is now drinking on her own and eating her miniscule portions of her gastrointestinal food. Well done girl!

Day 4

Elsa having her daily cuddle

Day 4

The past few days caught up with Elsa over night and she went a bit flat so is back on a drip. The excitement and the 'instant' fix the fluids gave her short term was energy she couldnt afford to use and shes is knackered. So she has been banned from doing anything that will use up her energy reserves any more and so shes gone back to bed. The problem with Elsa is that she cannot stand unaided and feeling a little better than she did when she first arrived Elsa wanted to say "Hi" to everyone visiting. So no more visits for now as when she tries to stand shes paddling on the floor trying to get up. To her its like swimming 100m, leaving her exhausted. So for the next few days we will be getting limited photos and they will probably all look the same...Elsa relaxing

Day 5

Poor girl is still exhausted so she has her teddy bear to keep an eye on her whilst she sleeps

Day 5

Elsa still has no energy but as you can see is padded up to the eyeballs to keep her poor bones from rubbing though the skin, she also has her heat pad under her and is quite enjoying the pampering.

Day 5

Look Elsa had a new collar its rather a sexy number in dayglow orange with reflective bits, shes rather proud of it :)

Day 5

The trouble is when you sleep all day sometimes you can't sleep at night and then you start thinking about things and then you get upset and you cry, then someone comes along and gives you a hug till you fall sleep again.

This is why we love our vets .....YourVets are amazing.

Day 6

Elsa was conserving her energy today because a little bird told her it was weigh in day. So she was very good and lay still ...will it pay off....lets see in the next update .......

Day 6

Come on Elsa its weigh in time lets see if you have gained some grams....remember she came in at 17.5kg
check out her video .....

Day 6 - Elsa Weigh In - 20.40kgs......amazing!

Elsa Update 22.12.17

For anyone that missed out recent post information.

Elsa will hopefully be moving into foster care on saturday as long as she continues to improve but she still has a long way to go in her rehab.

We are not considering any home offers for her until she is fully healed and assessed as to what her requirements in any future home will be as obviously this may change as she becomes fitter.

We will continue with daily updates until Boxing day and then every few days after that.

We are deeply touched by everyones concern and support of our beautiful girl and as soon as she is strong enough will be arranging a public meet and greet for anyone that wants to come and see her and will post information on this page.

Merry Christmas to you all from Team Animal House and our christmas angel of course Elsa.

New Year, New Elsa...........
