Mavis was found wandering as a stray by the dog warden and taken into kennels. She was emaciated and vacant, totally unloved.
We fetched her into the rescue and she was filthy and smelled awful.
Whilst bathing her it was found she had lumps under her armpit and along her ribs. The vet told us they are tumours and it
is probably terminal. (please read update
below)
Since being here she has come out of her shell and plays with the other dogs, although she gets tired very quickly, she is eating like a horse (having 4 meals a day plus tit bits) .She has even put weight on. She came in at 27.6kg and is now 29kg in a week and is very happy and loves gentle walks. We do not know how long she has left but would like someone to foster her full time so she can have one to one attention. All her food will be supplied and her vet bills will be paid. Mavis gets on with cats and other dogs if they are calm.
UPDATE - FANTASTIC NEWS!
Mavis has improved so dramatically that, on the advice of the vets,
biopsies were taken of the lumps and they are not cancerous but are
fatty tissue. She has put lots of weight on and has gained a
lot of energy back although she still gets tired very quickly but
loves to go on her walks and is content to mooch around in the
hedgerows and long grass with a few rests in between. She
loves to be outside playing with the other dogs.
