What a day today has been, we have seen today the heart break of cruelty to a furbaby and the loving caring side of people who went above and beyond to get her to safety.
Every Christmas some higher being calls us to help a really bad dog in distress and this year is no exception.
Early this morning around 7-30 am a man walking his dog on Clevedon Road, Basall Heath saw a dog lying in a ditch full of water, he looked and saw it was still alive, tied up with a martial arts belt. The man tried to get to the dog but he couldnt't but he did manage to cover the dog up and then phoned the fire brigade to help. Highgate fire station turned out and using equipment got her out. They then took her to Fivelands vets.
She is underweight, her paw was de-gloved and her toes were hanging off, The infection has spread and her leg will have to be removed as the flesh and foot is decaying. This is not a new wound, this poor baby has been in agony for a while.
Her teats are still producing milk so she has had puppies but we can't tell if they had weaned or they were recent.
Fivelands called us for help and of course we said yes and Nelly as she has been named has been moved to our vets (YourVets, Smethwick) for treatment. She will have more fluids, antibiotics and pain relief for now as she is weak. We are now praying she doesn't get sepsis. She will have her leg removed as soon as she is strong enough to take the anesthetic ....
Please pray, light a candle, send healing and love to this beauty as she needs every bit of help she can get.
Despite the fact she was in pain, cold and frightened, she has wagged her tail and shown nothing but gentleness to the fire crew that rescued her and to all of us.
A huge thank you goes out to Highgate fire station, all watches that helped get this little girl to safety and to the man who saw her and took the time to phone and save her life.
